Wildlife Rescue Townsville

NQ Wildlife Care is a registered not-for-profit charity. We receive no regular government funding and rely on public donations to help us rescue and rehabilitate animals in need.
We care for around 3,000 native animals a year and take over 6,000 calls per year on our phone rescue line.

Become part of the  Rescue Team!

Wildlife Rescue Townsville learn to help rescue native wildlife with NQ Wildlife Care.

Learn about how you can help rescue wildlife safely, and the processes and techniques we use at NQ Wildlife to rescue to ensure the best outcome for our wildlife.
Rescuing our wildlife varies from picking up wildlife that are already contained and dropping them to the vets to forming a team to safely capture a distressed animal, and containing them yourself. This course will give you the techniques and knowledge needed to assess the situation and capture, contain and transport our native wildlife.

Our 24-hour rescue phone training is separate from our rescue training and will give you insights on, answering the rescue phone, how the system works, how the rosters work, and how we are connecting the rescue calls to the rescue team to ensure the best outcome for our wildlife rescue process

This training is not suitable for children under 12 years of age as some images of injured animals are seen.
All children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult to attend the training

Our rescue phone is a 24 hr service provided by NQ Wildlife volunteers

Helping answer the wildlife rescue phone involves answering rescue calls from the general public and connecting the closest and currently available rescuer to the caller so the animal can be rescued as quickly as possible. This makes the difference between life and death for the animal.

NQ Wildlife provides full training for the phone rescue line/ there is a support network for this vital work

Two Amigos Echidna Rescue

Wildlife rescue Townsville

This pair of Echidnas were rescued from the side of the road, both had minor injuries which we were able to treat, they both had vet care and a great outcome and were released safely back to their habitat away from the road, it all started with a phone call “I’ve found a pair of echidna in distress looks like they have been hit by a car as they are on the side of the road”

Wildlife rescue Townsville

A kind member of the public rang the rescue phone to report a baby flying fox hanging on his dead mum electrocuted on a power line. We rang Ergon and within an hour, little Harry had been brought down safely and was in the hands of a rescuer. He’s a gorgeous, cheeky boy and will be released in a few months’ time with a strong warning to avoid powerlines!

Stevie Wonder the Agile Wallaby was rescued after a call that his mother had been hit by a car, the phone rescue system was put in place a rescuer was contacted and sent out to assess and rescue the mother with joey Stevie still in her pouch. The mother was dead but the rescuer saw the joey and took the mother to the vet, the vet was able to remove the joey, Stevie, safely from the pouch,  and he was then transported by our rescue team to our critical care macropod carer to stabilise, Stevie was only 400 grams. Stevie is enjoying his new life in care and will be released back into the wild with the best chance of survival. All thanks to a wonderful rescue and care system that starts with the phone call
